On January 14th, 2011 the news of the sudden passing of Trish Keenan - singer and founding member of the British electronic group, Broadcast - wrecked fans and the online music world. The Guardian, Pitchfork and NPR called it “shocking,” “painful," called her a “unique talent” and “beautiful human.”

It's hard to denote what exactly makes Broadcast a cult favorite. Is it Trish’s sleepily soft cadence? The esoteric lyrics, taking cues from avant-garde influences like the Czech film, “Valerie and Her Week of Wonders”? Is it the way the 60s pop vibe melds perfectly with staticky electronic sounds and sticks in your head for days, weeks, far longer than it should? Is it that each one of the five albums vastly differs from the next, like a secret compartment found buried inside an old lover? Or not albums, soundtracks, rather. I call them soundtracks because it’s as if they are attached to some cinematic vignette that we’re privy to, constructed of our own making.

On the anniversary of Keenan's death, local musicians interpret their favorites from the band’s oeuvre - including tracks from Tender Buttons, The Noise Made By People, Ha Sound and The Future Crayon.
