New Additions to Radio K - Albums

New albums, now in rotation

Erykah Badu + The Alchemist - Before the World Blows

New collaborative album from Erykah Badu (legendary singer + songwriter + queen of neo-soul) and The Alchemist, (one of the most prolific producers in modern hip-hop + underground rap). Lots of cool features from the likes of Earl Sweatshirt, Steve Lacy, and Thundercat. This is out on Control Freaq / Young records, and Beggars group hooked us up with all clean edits < 3
RIYL: D'Angelo, Solange, Thundercat
Fav tracks: Hot BiBi <-for the pippi longstocking reference lol. Also the first single Witch Doctor

Told Slant - What's Up

What's Up is the fourth Told Slant album by songwriter Felix Walworth. These songs were recorded straight to an eight-track reel to reel in a makeshift studio he built in upstate NY. They are largely about watching his hometown, NYC, change over the years. I love all the meta-bits in the lyrics about holding on to your music+creative process as a stabilizing force through changes around you. The best songs on here carry a strangely perfect mix of comfort and anxious nostalgia. Features back-up vocals from Hannah Pruzinsky of H. Pruz.
RIYL: Lou Reed, Suicide, The Replacements, Nebraska-era Springsteen, Craig Finn
Fav tracks: **Manhattan**, What's Up <-lovely short soft acoustic one

Sharp Pins - Mod Mayday 23

Sharp Pins is the solo project of Kai Slater, also known as a principal member of Chicago's post-punk darlings Lifeguard. This is a reissue of early Sharp pins songs, originally released as an 11-track cassette tape. Kai describes the sound as garagepopspew, it's a beautifully lo-fi 60's-inspired jangle pop dream.
RIYL: The Kinks, Cindy Lee, The Apples in Stereo, Old Pup
Fav tracks: It's a Mod Mod World, Day of Change

Mama's Broke - Reunion

Canadian folk duo Mama's Broke work in a truly bewitching old-time style, incorporating fiddle, banjo, and mandolin traditions from both sides of the Atlantic into their songwriting. On their new record, they write about modern apocalypses with a reflective, intimate, and timeless tone.
RIYL: Olive Klug, Creekbed Carter, Charlie Parr, Ye Vagabonds
Fav tracks: Heaven, or No Great Reunion for a really sparse, dark + reflective one.

Lily Seabird - Lightspheres on The Way

Third record from the Vermont-based artist. Sprawling alt-country storytelling, centered around the mysterious idea of light spheres, which can be actual lights, like a star, ufo, headlight, or representative of living things like people + relationships.
This album is officially out in early october but they sent it out to radio a little early !
RIYL: Greg Freeman, Songs: Ohia, Patti Smith, Neil Young
Fav track: Election Day, Lightspheres on the Way

A Blind History - EP2
